Sony has announced an upcoming State of Play broadcast set to feature a deep dive into the upcoming James Bond game, 007: First Light, from Hitman developer IO Interactive. The broadcast is set for Wednesday, September 3, at 11 pm Pacific and 2 pm Eastern time. It will be available to watch via PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch pages.
Senior Global Communication Manager of IO Interactive, Yann Roskell, stated via a PlayStation Blog post:
In this upcoming State of Play, tune in for over 30 minutes of gameplay featuring a playthrough of Bond’s first mission as an MI6 recruit,” Sony wrote of its upcoming presentation. “The action includes everything from high-speed car chases to on-foot stealth sequences and shootouts. Stay tuned after the playthrough for insights from IO Interactive on the intense espionage gameplay.
There is no other mention of any other games set to be showcased during this event, and the 30-minute length of the deep dive suggests this State of Play will focus solely on 007: First Light, which is not uncommon for Sony to do, as Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Suicide Squad had both been similarly given game focused State of Plays in the past.
While IO Interactive isn’t done developing the Hitman series, which they only recently released on the Nintendo Switch 2, the studio has stated they aim to develop a trilogy of titles focused on the British super spy from writer Ian Fleming, who has been the subject of a multitude of films dating back to 1962. IO Interactives takes on the character, features an original origin story for the character, set in modern times.
The trilogy is intended to be made on a modest budget, with the CEO of IO, Hakan Abrak, explained, with each game made in sequence, without unnecessary expenses like reproducing assets. The studio is also working on another new IP, Project Fantasy, which is in development for Xbox with the latter as the publisher on the title.
007: First Light is set to release in 2026, having been confirmed to be in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
