IO Interactive showcased the first look at gameplay for their upcoming 007: First Light, their take on the classic James Bond character created by Ian Fleming, during a Sony State of Play. The primary gameplay showcased is set across the opening mission of the game, which features the character serving as tactical support, posing as a Chauffeur, while two more experienced spies infiltrate a chateau during some kind of event in hopes of capturing 009, an ex-agent who has fled and gone into hiding.
This segment of the deep dive showcases three segments of glamplay that start with a more linear driving moment, and then an infiltration segment that looks familiar to IO Interactive’s Hitman franchise, as James needs to clear a bath so he can climb into the building and enter through a window. Part of this looks to be somewhat linear in how it is approached, though, this being an IO game, most tasks will likely have a multitude of approaches. The gameplay then jumps to an intense car chase through the countryside, which felt very reminiscent of the recently released Mafia: The Old Country in its cinematic design. The trailer then ends on an Uncharted-style shootout to reach a plane on a runway before finally tearing it apart midair. Arguably, my favorite feature showcased is Bond’s ability to throw guns at enemies when they are unloaded or… Just because…
A second gameplay segment is showcased later, with Bond infiltrating a gala, with the emphasis in this portion being on how 007 can tackle objectives, with stealth and caution offering valuable moments to gather intel so players can better complete their objective with the least amount of trouble. Similar to the superspy of the films, players will also have several gadgets they can use, such as a digital watch that has a high-power laser, a knockout dart, and a hacking device built in.
During the state of play, much of the cast was confirmed, with Patrick Gibson, who many suspected was playing James Bond, confirming his involvement with the role. Other members of the cast include Lennie James as Greenway, Priyanga Burford as M, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny, and Noemie Nakai as Ms. Roth.
In addition, the deep dive ended by stating that 007: First Light will be available on March 27, 2026. Fans who preorder the game digitally now will be upgraded to the Digital Deluxe edition at no extra cost, which gets them 24-hour early access, 4 exclusive outfits, an additional weapon skin, as well as the gleaning pack for certain item cosmetics. 007: First Light will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
