Stellar Blade, the upcoming debut action game from ShiftUp, finally got a release date after years of waiting. This announcement finally came during Sony’s State of Play event on Wednesday, January 31st. Along with that reveal came the first in-depth look at the title.
The trailer reintroduces us to two aspects they have already showcased, that earth is now a post-apocalyptic wasteland and that you play Eve who isn’t the biblical Eve but a stand-in. The player will be tasked with killing off an entire race of invading monsters, which based on the dialog is supposed to cause some moral discomfort. At least the idea of driving them extinct, even if they destroyed our floating rock.
Beyond that, the game gives off some series Nier: Automata vibes, and not just because of the shared themes in its story. The game has a hub area, as well as open areas you can explore within your main quest or while tackling requests. Combat also seems to invoke Nier with fast-paced attacking and dodging as you go toe to toe with a wide variety of enemies.
Eve will have a wide range of weapons to use and upgrade through her journey the did seem to mix up your actions for some variety. In that same vein, it also seems Eve herself will be customizable with a range of hairstyles and outfits to express yourself.
Stellar Blade, formerly known as Project Eve, will be released on April 26th, 2024 as an exclusive for the PlayStation 5. The best part yet of this game is that the trailer confirms it will receive a physical disk.
