The upcoming live-service title formerly known as Project Mugen has received a new trailer showcasing the anime-style open-city game in action. In addition, it has been officially re-introduced under the new title Ananta.
First announced during Gamescom 2023, Ananta is being developed by Naked Rain, a studio based out of Hangzhou, China, and published by popular Chinese publisher NetEase, currently seeing success for their recently released Marvel Rivals. Most might remember it as the anime game in which characters swing through the city using a similar mechanic to that of the Insomniac Games Spider-Man series.
Thankfully, this trailer puts less emphasis on the swinging and more on the city itself, giving off a very sci-fi Grand Theft auto vibe with action RPG elements. Players can traverse the sprawling city on foot, in a car, or by swinging ala Spider-Man. Several scenes seem to blend those genres as we see the player engaging in a shootout while sticking out of the sunroof of a car while also doing stealth missions on rooftops, jumping from perches to hit enemies.
More features we now get a look at are the many mini-games from darts to basketball that the players can engage in when they want to relax. There will also be a racing mini-game because no game with cars is complete without one. The action combat is also on full display, mixed with the absurd elements of the city that give it a unique spin on the genre.
Only one city, Nova, is featured in the trailer and will be available at launch. It is inspired by the Japanese Urban style. More cities are slated to become available later on with each taking inspiration from cities around the world.
Ananta is currently available for pre-registration and will be free to play when it eventually launches. It is currently slated to be released for PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows, IOS, and Android.
