Fans of the Halo franchise will be getting a tease at what’s next later this year at the Halo World Championship 2025, which will be held on October 24. This news was stated via a blog post from Esports Lead for the Halo franchise, Tahir “Tash” Hasandjekic, suggesting that fans in attendance will find out what Halo Studios has been working on.
This venue was used previously by the developer, appearing last year to announce that the formerly named 343 Studios had changed their name to Halo Studios, after the series they had been working on for over a decade. At that same time, the studio announced plans to develop future Halo titles on Unreal Engine 5, abandoning the Slipspace engine that was used to power Halo Infinite..
This announcement was made with a seven-minute-long video that preceded the Halo World Championship’s Grand Finals. This was a showcase of the results of Project Foundery, which was an experimental project to present a Halo game that was built using Unreal Engine. It was additionally intended to showcase a fresh start for the franchise, which saw its last release in 2021, Halo Infinite, launch to a mixed response from fans. The title has gone on to garner a more positive reception with Halo Studios releasing constant updates for the game.
Tashi stated in this blog post:
Last year at HaloWC, we premiered ‘A New Dawn’ where we talked about the switch to Unreal Engine, gave you a behind the scenes look at Project Foundry, and debuted our evolution to Halo Studios as we enter a new chapter for Halo. For us, ‘A New Dawn’ was just the beginning — at this year’s HaloWC, we look forward to continuing the conversation.
Speculation is always fun, but if you want the official scoop on what Halo Studios has been working on, you won’t want to miss this year’s Halo World Championship. We really hope you’ll join us in Seattle this October!
Microsoft holds multiple events during the year, having just held the Xbox Games Showcase in June. This two-hour event would be the most expected place to debut a new Halo title, having used it to announce Halo Infinite, so most likely we are not getting an announcement of the next mainline series. Stating they plan to continue the conversation implies some further implementation of Unreal Engine 5 into the series, probably Infinite, through some future update, but we will need to wait till October to know for sure.
