While a multitude of indie games are announcing delays to avoid conflict with the upcoming release of Hollow Knight: Silksong, which was announced for September 4, 2025, Kakehashi Games has announced that they will not be delaying Hirogami, the Bandai Namco Singapore-developed paper-folding platformer. The game is still set to release on September 3rd, only one day prior to that of Hollow Knight: Silksong.
In a press release made by the publisher, it was stated that Hirogami “will maintain its September 3rd launch date for PC and PlayStation 5 as announced back in June.” Worldwide Publishing Director Matt Sakuraoka-Gilmkan even joked, “Today we’re excited to announce nothing at all,” referencing the string of games that did have something to announce, such as the upcoming Persona-inspired RPG Demonschool, which moved its release date to November to directly avoid competing with long long-anticipated indie title.
Sakuraoka-Gilman went on to congratulate Team Cherry for Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s impending release, stating:
We have nothing but love, admiration and best wishes for our friends at Team Cherry. And we have respect and understanding for every developer getting out of Silksong’s way. But Hirogami is ready to launch, our community is ready to play it, and we can’t wait to share it with the world!
Hirogami was announced during PlayStation’s State of Play held in June of this year, later being featured during the Future Games Show, with its latest showing being at Gamescom earlier this month. In it, players take on the role of Hiro, who sets out to save their paper-crafted world from a corruption known as the blight. To do so, as the name of the game implies, they will need to use the power of Origami (the traditional Japanese art of folding paper) to take on a number of forms to traverse the levels and fight enemies. While the game is digitally designed, it was made with a hand-crafted aesthetic and an animation style that mimics stop motion.
Hirogami will be available on PC and PlayStation 5 when it releases next month.
