Publisher THQ Nordic, weirdly enough, has two wreck-based titles in development currently, with the announcement of Wreckfest 2 late last year. Hinting at an announcement, this title made sense given that the original Wreckfest performed well, and given that the announcement was at the time hinted at by focusing on the Wreck part of the title, I had even covered that it looked like their other title, Wreckreation, might get some mention, having gone dark at the time. This was incorrect, obviously, but finally, after another year of largely being quiet, Wreckreation has received a new trailer and a release date.
Wreckreation is an open-world sandbox racing title, similar to that of Trackmania, with some Hot Wheels built in. Set across a sprawling 155-mile countryside, players can drive through the area along the streets if they want to, but they can also build massive tracks that take to the sky or the sea if they want them to. In addition, obstacles and more can be set to create challenging courses for both you and your friends to race through.
The title is being developed by Three Fields Entertainment, which, potential players might be happy to know, was founded by former Criterion developers, the studio most well known for the Burnout series before later working on Need For Speed. While not a direct spiritual successor to the Burnout games, the trailer does showcase some of the aggressive driving it was known for on full display as players drive roads and gravity-defying tracks.
Wreckreation is now set to race onto the scene on October 28th, after all this time of waiting. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, and will cost $39.99/€39.99.
