Borderlands 4 Developer Gearbox has stated that improving the performance of the PC version of the game is the “top priority” of the patch being released for the game today, on September 18th. In a statement made on social media, Gearbox said that it was aware of the feedback given by players across all platforms for Borderlands 4, with patches planned to address many of these issues. Among them, a field of view slider is not yet ready to be added, but is currently in testing.
Despite hitting big numbers on Steam, many players have taken to the internet to voice their concerns about extremely poor performances on PC. These issues have been exacerbated thanks to Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, who seemed antagonistic to the complaints being made. The studio released a patch for PC over the weekend, but it lacked patch notes and didn’t appear to address any issues players were experiencing. Borderlands 4 is currently sitting at mixed in the user review scores on Steam because of these issues, with the tech experts at Digital Foundry finding that the game has significant stuttering issues.
Gearbox has posted an Nvidia optimization guide for the title on Steam, giving advice for getting the best framerates and performance out of the game, though players have reported mixed results. Another piece of advice issued by the company states that “any time you change any of your graphics settings, your shaders will need to recompile,” with the company asking you, ” Please keep playing for at least 15 minutes to see how your PC’s performance has changed.” Hopefully, this new update will offer some relief for players just looking to collect loot and kill monsters, but it sounds like there is a long road to fix the game in a truly meaningful way across PC and console.
