Survival Settlement RPG Nested Lands is now available in Early Access, offering brutal medieval gameplay during the Black Death.
Set during the Black Death, a period where roughly 50% of Europe’s population died, Nested Lands is a survival settlement RPG that does not shy away from showing its harsh reality. As the village chief, players are tasked with building a functioning town by gathering resources, enduring nasty plague outbreaks, and protecting their people from roaming bandits and plague-twisted foes. The main character’s own mental health will also play a role, as the growing settlement may result in delusional effects during gameplay.
Developed by Brazilian studio 1M Bits Horde, Nested Lands implements a slew of mechanics from its catastrophic time to heighten the rawness of the setting. For example, players will be tasked with stockpiling medicine and getting rid of infected corpses to ensure that their entire village doesn’t get wiped out by the plague. If your main character does not clean often, their rancid body odor will alert enemies to their presence, bringing more trouble to the fledgling community. Melee combat, archery, and stealth attacks are among the resourceful options players will have to engage in to fight back against outside threats.

Ambitious to a fault, Nested Lands already has an Early Access roadmap that was published shortly after release, detailing a busy future for its villagers. New biomes, story arcs, enemies, systems, and features such as fishing: there is much to expect from this current build on offer. Playable alone, the rough beginnings of creating a safe haven in such troubling times can be alleviated in online co-op with up to three friends.
Nested Lands is now available for PC via Steam in Early Access. It will be shortly offered through GOG and the Epic Games Store, with console versions planned for the full release.
