Cronos: The New Dawn, developed by Bloober Team, the studio behind the Silent Hill 2 Remake, has received some criticism since its launch due to the game’s difficulty. While difficulty spikes are to be expected in the Survival Horror genre, some places just want to revel in the oppressively bleak atmosphere and narrative, a point that has been hammered home multiple times this year. Thankfully, Bloober Team has announced that the title will be getting an easy mode for players who don’t want to struggle as much.
Scheduled for early 2026, the mode is entitled the Temporal Diver Mode, which will be an optional choice forCronos: The New Dawn that acts as an easy mode to scale down the difficulty, allowing players to focus on the other aspects of the experience. This news was announced by Bloober Team via a trailer, though this does not give much information as to just what changes this mode makes.
The team stated at the end of this trailer:
Hey There Travelers,
Chronos: The New Dawn was a game developed to challenge the players. But we’ve heard your voices, and we know that some of us want to explore the story behind the game in your own pace.
So right now, we are working on a difficulty setting that will be introduced in early 2026.
Such is our calling.
This is not the only horror game to receive an easy mode after criticisms arose over just how much the difficulty affected the overall experience. Silent Hill f, for instance, added a new difficulty for combat due to the complexity of its melee combat. As somebody with 100 hours achieving the platinum trophy in that game, I would say it is a delicate balance, since if the game is too hard, the horror stops feeling impactful and more of an annoyance. Obviously, though, you often want your lead to feel like they are in over their head, with difficult combat being one way of achieving that.
Cronos: The New Dawn is available currently on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Bloober Team is also currently developing a remake of the first Silent Hill, after the release of their Silent Hill 2 Remake, which Konami continues to tout as a success.
