Set in the Appalachian Mountains, where real life disappearances, strange sightings and overall eerie vibes abound, Blue Ridge Hunting is a new online co-op horror game that just launched its Kickstarter campaign. Featuring a low-poly PSX artstyle, the found footage aesthetic feels quite fitting to the game’s unique atmosphere. Reminiscent of classic horror media like Silent Hill 2 and The Blair Witch Project, it’s wearing its inspirations on its sleeve. With a demo recently launched on Steam, spooky fans can get a taste of what’s to come in the full experience.
Backed by Six One Indie Publishing and developed by Jade & Company, this studio and publisher’s first outing already boasts a solid direction thanks to a full story mode at launch. In contrast to other online co-op games such as Phasmophobia, where the only goal is to complete one investigation with no overarching plot, Blue Ridge Hunting aims to have a detailed narrative for players to look forward to. Following the story of Levi Chambers, a disgruntled West Virginia native haunted by sightings of the infamous Mothman his entire life, the search for the truth will have players getting more than they bargained for.

Deeply rooted in Appalachian folklore and facing unique creatures at each turn, every investigation has the opportunity to go sideways extremely rapidly. Implementing proximity voice chat that can be heard by the various monsters on the dark woods, players will have to be careful to not attract unwanted attention and cut their incursions short. With gameplay mechanics where players utilize various tools and items to collect evidence and track down creatures, every resource will have to be carefully applied. As part of the Appalachian Investigation Group, the search for the mythical Mothman will have the hunters becoming the hunted.
Blue RIdge Hunting is currently running a Kickstarter campaign and has a demo available on Steam.
