After the release of its first and only major DLC expansion Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt Red had suggested that Cyberpunk 2077 would begin winding down support as the team moved on to the sequel of the title, as well as the next game in The Witcher series. This doesn’t appear to be the case however as the Cd Projekt Red has confirmed yet another major update, numbered 2.2 for Cyberpunk 2077, surprising fans in the process.
CD Projekt took to X, Formally Twitter, to announce an upcoming episode of their REDstreams which is slated for December 10th to announce the updates and features coming to the game. It will be available to watch on Twitch and YouTube at 5 pm CEST (11 am EST). It will mark the fourth anniversary of the release of the game.
While we do not know the contents of this update yet, there has been some talk of what not to expect. It was stated previously that no PlayStation 5 Pro version of the game is planned at this time, and neither is a new game plus. In a tweet from the Global Community Director at CD Projekt Red, Marcin Momot, he stated:
A lot of questions about whether PS5 Pro support and NG+ are coming with Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 2.2. The answer is no. We do have some other cool stuff in the oven and we’ll talk about it tomorrow during the stream — we hope you’ll like it too! Appreciate the patience🙏
HJe additionally stated that the “team still has some gas in the tank,” though if this means players can expect more updates worth returning to Night City for remains to be seen. This update is being announced shortly after it was announced that Cyberpunk 2077 hit the major milestone of 30 Million Copies sold, with the Phantom Liberty DLC hitting 8 million units sold so there is a large player base that can benefit from these updates. Both game sales, as well as strong sales of The Witcher 3, were pointed to by the company during its recent third quarter.
Most recently it was announced that CD Projekt Red has moved The Witcher 4 into full-scale production, with a new Witcher trilogy, codenamed Project Polaris, also progressing from preproduction to full-scale production as well. The studio currently has 400 of its 650 development team working on The Witcher 4, down from 410 which was reported in July. Beyond that, 42 are working on the Molasses Flood-developed Witcher IP codenamed Sirius, 18 people working on a brand new IP codenamed Hadar, and 64 people working on the follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Orion.
