Nintendo has announced that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive title Drag X Drive will be releasing on August 14, 2025 as a digital title for the price of $19.99. This news was announced via the Today! app, which was previously used to announce the upcoming Splatoon Raiders, a spin-off of the popular Nintendo series of the same name. It is currently available for pre-order on the Nintendo eShop.
Announced during the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal Direct held in April, Drag X Drive is intended as a feature-driven game, similar to that of Welcome Tour, which was released alongside the Platform when it launched on June 5, or Arm, which was released for the original Nintendo Switch 2. The Nintendo-developed exclusive focuses on the mouse feature present in the Joy-Con 2 controllers for players to control the left and right wheel of their wheelchair bound characters as they compete in 3v3 basketball.
The mouse feature serves this generation of Nintendo similar to the gyroscopic controls served the previous one. While most games do not require the function, titles like Cyberpunk 2077 allow for it, letting players turn their Joy-Con 2s to the side and move them along a flat surface. In my review of the title for the Switch 2, I noted that the feature did not work as well as I would have hoped.
With the announcement of Drag X Drive‘s release date, we start to get a clearer picture of just what plans Nintendo has for the launch window of their newest handheld. Donkey Kong Bananza, arguably their biggest upcoming release, had received a dedicated Direct focusing on the game, releasing in July. Beyond this, Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 are also set to release later this year.
