EA and Bioware Remain Commited To Next Mass Effect Game

The developer behind the Upcoming Mass Effect game, BioWare, has reaffirmed its commitment to the Reboot of the franchise following Publisher EA’s commitment to a $55 billion deal with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, among other investors, to go private. In a blog, which was posted today, the annual N7 Day, franchise boss Mike Gamble stated he wanted to set the record straight concerning “rumors lately.”

    He started by stating:

Let’s start by setting the record straight: the next Mass Effect game is in development, and EA and BioWare remain committed to telling more stories in this universe.

In particular, rumors have begun circulating among fans following the announcement of the $55 billion deal, which is expected to bring some change. The most recent title from BioWare, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, received a tepid response from the market, with Mass Effect also being in development within the studio, but having remained largely quiet since it was announced in 2020. This statement is meant to assuage fans’ concerns, especially as Mass Effect was meant to become the studio’s focus following Dragon Age‘s release in October of last year.

    Gamble went on to state:

The truth is, the last few years have been an incredibly busy time at BioWare. But currently, the team is heads-down and focused exclusively on Mass Effect. We have a lot of universe to cover, lots of features to build, and lots of romances to figure out.

We’re excited by what we’re building, and we promise you: when we’re ready, it’ll be a lot of fun to show. Until then, thank you for your patience because y’all are thirsty for news and I see you looking for secret meaning in my tweets (okay, sometimes they have secret meaning).

This wasn’t the only news that was released for N7 day, as BioWare also gave more information on the upcoming adaptation of the franchise that will eventually be released on Amazon Prime. The studio confirmed that the series would not follow Commander Shepard’s story from the original Trilogy of games, instead focusing on an original story set after the events of these games. Other news included discounts on Mass Effect merch and gear.

Gamble followed up his blog post with one via X, confirming the studio is now fully focused on Mass Effect. He stated here:

For everyone yelling at me because we didn’t use N7 Day to provide a whole bunch of info… I mean, I get it. I’m a fan too. I want you to see stuff. But it’s not the time… yet. Has it been years since announce? Yes. Have we been busy? Yes. Are we NOW 100% on Mass Effect? Also yes.

A teaser trailer was released for a new Mass Effect game back in 2020. While it hasn’t completely vanished since then, the company has only released a few easter eggs or promotional pictures. We are still unclear, specifically, on what to expect with the story, besides being set sometime after following the third game and ignoring the previous attempt at a reboot, Andromeda. While the teaser trailer featured the character of Liara from the original games, finding gear from the N7, which Shepard sported, there is a possibility these plot points have been ditched since their initial announcement.
