Announced last year during a Nintendo Direct, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is finally up for preorder for the Nintendo Switch 2 by Bandai Namco and FromSoftware. The upgraded release of the game-of-the-year-winning title will be available exclusively at this time for the Switch 2 and will feature several new additions, including two additional starting classes to choose from.
The preorder listing for this version of the game also confirms that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will cost $79.99 and will feature a game key card release for physical editions. The one detail we do not have at this time, however, is a release date; listings currently show Dec 31, 2026, which is a clear placeholder.
Upon its release four years ago, Elden Ring achieved critical acclaim, taking the tight and challenging combat that FromSoftware has become known for and bringing it into an open world with very little direction to dictate how you discover the many things hidden around its world.
While the Nintendo Switch 2 has seen a multitude of titles that skipped the original Switch finally reach the platform, such as Cyberpunk 2077, there is some room for concern here. Early previews of the Elden Ring have heavily criticized its performance, with several noting it struggles to maintain 15 FPS in handheld mode.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition includes:
- Full Base Game
- Full Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion
- 2 New Starting Classes: Heavy Knight and Knight of Ides
- 4 New Armor Sets
- 3 Customization Options for Torrent
The price point is the same as the 2024 rerelease of the game to coincide with the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, so there is some debate to be had as to whether a four-year-old game should be at this price point. On the positive side, though, this version will see a few new classes and armor sets that might help justify the price for some fans.
