Final Fantasy To Release Multiplatform Moving Forward, Says Producer

In an Interview with 4gamer regarding FANTASIAN Neo Dimension, Naoki Yoshida, who is known by fans affectionately as Yoshi-P, claimed that multiplatform releases are planned to happen “more and more.”

    He stated that:

Of course, we want you to play it a lot on other platforms as well. This time, we will also release the Xbox Series X/S version at the same time. In the future, Square Enix titles will be released simultaneously on each platform more and more, but since this is close to the first release, we would like Xbox users to play it as well.p

This news follows a financial results briefing in which the President of Square Enix, Takashi Kiryu, stated that both Final Fantasy XVI last year and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth this year failed to meet sales expectations. Square Enix has had a long track record of being underwhelmed with sales figures of their games but with Rebirth being a potential frontrunner for Game of the Year, the fact that no official figures are being made public is concerning.

Yoshi-P had additionally made his desire to port Final Fantasy XVI to the Xbox in the future. In an interview in Video Games, he said:

Of course, we did announce the PC version of the game, so looking towards the Xbox version, we do want to release it on Xbox But when it comes to the specifics such as when the game would be available and such, we are not in a position to be able to share anything.

But of course, I want to say that it’s not as if there’s zero hope, and we very much do want to achieve that so players should not give up in terms of their hopes

Square Enix had also previously outlined that they plan to “aggressively pursue a multi-platform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs.” While we have yet to see these plans fully in effect yet, these quotes indicate that we will begin to seem them soon.

On a personal note, Final Fantasy VII Remake was absolutely one of my favorite games this year. In my review of the game, in which it was given a 9/10, I stated “This is the most complete version of Final Fantasy that has been released and it isn’t even the complete Final Fantasy VII story.” I highly recommend if you haven’t returned to Gaia yet in Rebirth you do so soon.
