IO Interactive has showcased its first trailer for its upcoming game based on the James Bond character created by Ian Fleming, entitled First Light: 007. Announced in 2020, this is the first time we have gotten to see the Hitman developer bring the character to life on gaming consoles.
First Light: 007 gives us a much different take on the character than we have seen across the movies and books, taking place at the beginning of 007’s career before he has become a well-established super spy. It also features a James Bond not modeled off of a franchise actor, something that has been uncommon in games, with perhaps the most beloved game based on the character, N64’s Goldeneye, featuring current actor Pierce Brosnan’s likeness with the game later being remade using the then current actor Daniel Craig’s likeness.
We are introduced to this new take on the character through dialogue featuring Walking Dead Actor Lennie James, depicting the titular character as a bit of a loose cannon, juxtaposed with a scene to imply just that. Despite this being an origin story for the character that has been a pop culture icon since the 60s, this is a modern-day take with high-tech gadgetry and tech, much of which you can probably expect to use to complete the mission at hand.
Players can expect to earn the number, as the tagline suggests, when First Light: 007 releases in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. In addition, players can sign up for an IOI account to get the “On Duty” outfit and the “Gilded Wraith” weapon skin for use in-game. In addition to this, Io Interactive is developing another game entitled Project Fantasy, as well as publishing the upcoming game MindsEye from Build A Rocket Boy.
