The long-awaited sequel to Hollow Knight, Hollow Knight: Silksong, has received a release date after years of waiting. Team Cherry announced this news via a 2-minute-long trailer for the upcoming title that ends with the reveal of a September 4, 2025, release date. The trailer also showcases a lot of new information for Silksong, which had gone quiet for years as the developer was working on it, with levels and enemy types on full display.
Originally announced in 2019, the game has seen a fair share of delays before going quiet with a, it will be ready when it’s ready attitude. It has become a long-running meme among games to get your hopes up for an appearance of it during events like Summer Games Fest or a Nintendo Direct. The conversation shifted earlier this year when Nintendo casually included it in their preview for the Nintendo Switch 2, in which a few seconds of the game were visible for a moment, with a 2025 date, which was an odd choice for such a highly desired release. Eventually, it was revealed that it would be playable at Gamescom at both the Nintendo booth as well as on the ROG Xbox Ally at the Xbox booth. Geoff Keighly mentioned it at the start of Opening Night Live, once again throwing fans to a Team Cherry confirmed announcement for today.
Initially, Hollow Knight: Sliksong was announced for the Nintendo Switch and PC, with Xbox confirming later that it would be available on the Xbox Series and Xbox One, with the game playable day one on Game Pass. We now know it will additionally be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 as well.
Funny Enough, Hollow Knight: Silksong isn’t the only game announced in 2019 with a complicated development history to get a 2025 release date out of Gamescom. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 was announced the same year before entering development hell and seeing its original developer, Hardsuit Labs, be removed from the project and later replaced with developer The Chinese Room. It will release on October 21, 2025.
