Guerrilla Games and Sony have pulled back the curtain on a new title in the Horizon series of action games, entitled Horizon Hunters Gathering. This title is indeed the long-rumored cooperative live-service title in development at Guerrilla Games that will further build upon the two single-player Horizon titles that have been released across the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Horizon Hunter Gathering features a very different look than other titles in the series, offering a more playful cartoon style. The game will allow three players to squad up as they hunt the robotic dinosaurs the series is known for, now with more roguelike elements. Players can choose between a range of hunters, all with class abilities and upgradeable weapons, as they explore worlds for valuable power-ups, and work their way up to bigger and more terrifying enemies.
At launch, the game will feature four biomes to explore, all with different challenges to face that are unique to them. In between missions, there is a hub world where your hunters can gather as you prepare for the next mission, or just relax. Exploring these biomes is done predominantly through missions that can be accepted in the hub area, all of which offer changes to the overall experience. In addition, the game will feature a story that is canon to the Horizon universe, which can be experienced with either AI allies or other players.
A small-scale playtest of Horizon Hunters Gathering is planned near the end of February, with player registration open now. It will feature three available characters to play as and two mission types.
