This guide contains light spoilers for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.
An ingenious new cargo to deliver in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is animals out in the wild in this inhospitable land. Did you ever wonder how any type of living being survived here? Well, wonder no more because it will now be up to you, and Sam Porter Bridges, to help out the wildlife in Australia to survive extinction and reach a 5-star level with a certain kind of shelter in the process.
But first, how do you unlock it? Main Order 15 needs to be completed, in which you will rescue a kangaroo from certain death in a life-threatening situation. Once you reach the Animal Shelter with the kangaroo safe in your hands, you will be greeted by the staff that eagle-eyed players will instantly recognize as the synth-pop band CHVRCHES. Composed of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook, and Martin Doherty, this digitized band and now heads of the Animal Shelter, will open their arms to any wild animals that you find on your journey. But how does it all work, you may ask?
After unlocking the Animal Shelter base, you will now be able to find animals such as koalas, kangaroos, Tasmanian devils, among other animals, out in the open. It is advised to crouch with R1 to approach them stealthily so that they aren’t startled by your presence and run away. Once Sam can wrangle and pack them in his back, bike, or truck, you can bring them back to the Animal Shelter or entrust them to a different porter to do the job should you be too far away from it. A word of caution, if you enter any Private Room, the animals will be waiting just outside of any shelter you rest in, waiting to be delivered to their destination.
A question that arises from these living packages is how they operate. Will they die if you don’t deliver them within a set amount of time because of a lack of food or water? How careful should you be with them? Death Stranding 2: On The Beach takes a laidback approach here, as there is NOT a time limit as to when you need to deliver these animals. They will survive an indeterminate amount of time until you deliver them. You can do it at your leisure without any added pressure from the game. Although you WILL need to be careful with them. No going off cliffs in your off-roader if you want your animals to arrive safe and sound at the Animal Shelter. As a bonus, you will be rewarded with some trivia from the many animals available to rescue.
