The developer behind the Silent Hill 2 Remake, Bloober Team, has announced that they are currently developing Layers of Fear 3, which will continue the well-known horror franchise that first premiered in 2016. This announcement was teased via a website set up by the studio, stating a new reveal would be made on Valentine’s Day, a theme that permeated throughout the teaser site, with rose symbolism and snippets from a poem by William Blake entitled The Sick Rose. The sick rose is also the title given to the event once it launched.
In the video, CEO of Bloober, Piotr Babieno, thanks fans for keeping the series “close to your hearts for all these years.” This led into the main announcement teaser itself, which is presented in live action, with a man reading William Blakes The Sick Rose, with some things, such as a few creepy pictures, shown, before the title Layers of Fear 3 is showcased over the sand in an hourglass running down. The game features the tagline “Some Things Never Leave The Walls. They Only Learn To Wait.”
The originalLayers of Fear largely changed the trajectory of the studio, with the company previously developing smaller games such as the universally panned PlayStation 4 launch window title Basement Crawl. From Layers of Fear, the studio would go on to develop other Horror titles likeObserver, Blair Witch, and, most recently, the well-liked Silent Hill 2 Remake. Layers of Fear 2 was released in 2019, with a remake of the first game released in 2023.
Unfortunately, nothing else beyond “Stay Tuned” was given in terms of timeframe. Layers of Fear 3 joins several other projects that Bloober team has in development currently. These include a Remake of the original Silent Hill in conjunction with Konami, as well as a title known as Project M, which is coming to the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
