After over a decade of anticipation, a new LEGO Batman game has been announced! Revealed at Gamescom 2025 on August 19th, 2025, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight brings the infamous hero back to the LEGO series with an open-world standalone story and releases on console and PC in 2026.
The Head of Development Team at TT Games, Jonathan Smith, described the game at Gamescom 2025 as “…the definitive, essential Batman story” that “…take(s) you on Bruce Wayne’s epic story from origin to legend.” Mentioned in the same speech, the game will start with a younger Bruce Wayne training in the League of Shadows before continuing to build his family and legacy “as the years go by”.
With the main story driven by various games, films, and comics, the gameplay seemingly focuses more on their previous LEGO Batman games and Rocksteady’s Arkham Knight series. Complete with gliding, driving the Batmobile, and versatile combat, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight brings back those key aspects that make Arkham feel like Arkham. To top it off, the classic LEGO spin and comic onomatopoeia adds an extra layer to the game that really makes it pop, especially against its environment’s darker tones.

With seven playable characters and five villains, you will get to play as Batman, Jim Gordon, Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul. Like other LEGO games, each character will have their own gadget or ability. According to the LEGO Batman site’s FAQ, some of the gadgets include Batman’s grapple gun, Jim Gordon’s foam sprayer, Robin’s Line Launcher, and Catwoman’s whip. The abilities and gadgets of the other three haven’t been officially revealed yet. As for the villains, you will work on taking down Ra’s al Ghul, Bane, Joker, Penguin, and Poison Ivy.
Utilizing different characters for different things, there will be a wide array of challenges, collectibles, and customizations for the player to unlock around the open-world environment. There will also be multiple vehicles you can choose to travel the map – not just the Batmobile.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is Available for wishlist now on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and Epic Games. It will bring Batman back to the beloved LEGO series with a refreshing combat system that mixes Arkham and LEGO’s style, open-world exploration, and a Batman story that can be enjoyed by both newcomers and Batman veterans.
