Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has been delayed from a 2025 launch window to 2026. The game has been mostly quiet, save for a trailer released last year, making it less surprising that the title needs extra time. Skydance Games released a statement confirming this, attributing this to a need for extra polish time. Within this was a hint that Skydance may be poised to show more information soon.
Skydance Games said:
Taking this additional time will allow us to add more polish, and make sure we give you the best possible experience, and one that lives up to our vision
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is a narrative-driven adventure title, headed by the lead writer behind the Uncharted series, Amy Hennig. Set in the 1940s during World War 2, it follows Captain America, Black Panther of the era, Azzuri, Howling Commandos agent Gabriel Jones, and Wakandan spy embedded in occupied Paris, Nanali, as their paths converge.
While not much has been showcased of the game as of yet, it was one of the subjects of the State of Unreal 2024, a GDC event held by Epic Games to showcase titles developing in their current open-source engine. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra uses Unreal Engine 5, making use of the facial scanning technology Meta Human. Games such as Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga use and showcase the technology, which allows for realistic facial scanning, even done from a cell phone. Upcoming Hideo Kojima title OD is also set to use Unreal Engine 5, having showcased the game’s use of MetaHuman during the Video Game Awards in 2023.
In addition to Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Hennig and the team at Skydance Games are working on a currently untitled Star Wars Game that has yet to be revealed to the public. EA previously tapped Hennig to lead the development of a Star Wars game, known as Project Ragtag. It was cancelled in October of 2017.
