After skipping the PlayStation State of Play event, Insomniac Games has announced a release date for their upcoming game, Marvel’s Wolverine, in a bit of a surprise tweet. The game is set to release on September 15, 2026, a week after the PlayStation 5 platform exclusive Phantom Blade Zero is also set to release. The tweet itself was only a 6-second teaser that stated, “Let’s cut to the chase: Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15, 2026.”
The title was hotly anticipated to be part of the State of Play event held by Sony this month, but a response from developer Insomniac put a pin in that, suggesting we would be getting more info on the title in “Spring 2026.” Obviously, nothing new for the game was announced here, but thankfully, we didn’thave to wait that long for a release date announcement.
Wolverine was first announced in 2021, given a cinematic reveal teaser alongside the announcement of Spider-Man 2, also from developer Insomniac. Development on the project went quiet after that, except for a leak in 2023, when a massive hack of Insomniac Games took place. It wasn’t until 2025 that we got first full trailer, in which Wolverine slices and dices anybody who gets in his way.
During the State of Play event, it was announced that Spider-Man 2 will be available through the PlayStation Plus catalog, making this a great time to explore Insomniac’s take on the Marvel Universe if you have not yet done so. We also received a PlayStation Blog article, offering a slightly deeper look at the game, as well as other Marvel characters he will cross paths with on his “global thriller.”
Marvel’s Wolverine is set to launch as a PlayStation 5 exclusive.
