Nintendo has announced Splatoon Raiders, the first spin-off title in the Splatoon franchise, one of the few series to come out of the Wii U era of Nintendo with some longevity. This title, which was announced via the Nintendo Today app (one of the first games to get a full announcement through the app), will launch as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, though no date for release has been revealed at this time.

In Splatoon Raiders, the player takes control of a Mechanic on an adventure throughout the mysterious Spirhalite Islands. This mechanic character is described by the team as being an “expert mechanic with a mysterious background”. Alongside this character, Deep Cut, the trio of announcers from Splatoon 3 will also be traveling, acting as allies on this journey.

Alongside this reveal, a significant update to Splatoon 3 was also announced, releasing June 12th. Referring to Splatoon 3 ver 10.0.0 will include 30 new weapon kits from the in-game Barazushi and Emberz brands, which are part of the Splatlands collections. We will also see the return of the Urchin Underpass stage from the original Splatoon game, as well as performance and visual upgrades for the game when played on a Nintendo Switch 2. It was stated that players on Nintendo’s newly released platform will see more detailed visuals, as well as better performances in areas such as Splatsville and the Grand Festival Grounds. Splatoon 3 will continue to feature cross-play between both the Switch 1 and Switch 2.

In addition to this, all freshness caps will be raised, with players being able to earn new in-game badges. A new stat will also be added for the Anarchy Battle Series, which is called Series Weapon Power. This will track a player’s effectiveness per weapon based on their win and loss stats while using it, then match you based on those stats with other players that are similarly ranked. This is meant to allow players to feel more willing to experiment with weaponry without being put at a significant disadvantage.
