Nintendo has announced that there will be a change in pricing, charging different amounts between physical and digital Nintendo Switch 2 games beginning next month, with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. The title was previously announced with a price of $59.99 across both versions. While this price point will remain for the digital version of the game, the physical version of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will see a price increase to $69.99, a $10 increase in price.
In a statement issued by Nintendo today, the company has said price increases for physical titles “simply reflects the different costs associated with producing and distributing” games that way. They stated:
Beginning in May 2026, and starting with pre-orders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, new Nintendo-published digital titles exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 will have an MSRP that is different from the physical version.
Nintendo games offer the same experiences whether in packaged or digital format, and this change simply reflects the different costs associated with producing and distributing each format, and offers players more choice in how they can buy and play Nintendo games.
As always, retail partners set their own prices for physical and digital games, and pricing for each title may vary.
Today’s comments refer specifically to new Nintendo games, implying the previously released titles, such as Donkey Kong Bananaza, will not see price increases either way. There are a number of titles we can expect to be affected by this shift, such as Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and Splatoon Raiders, to name a few.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Nintendo planned to cut back on Nintendo Switch 2 production, following weaker holiday sales that the company had anticipated. This was particularly noted in the U.S., though the company saw lower sales in Japan as well. Nintendo, like all electronics manufacturers, has seen increased pressure due to the high and rising costs of parts such as superconductors, as well as logistical issues stemming from global trade and tariffs.
