Similar to Persona 3 Reload previously, Persona 4 Revival, a remake of the fourth entry in the popular spin-off to the Shin Megami Tensei series using the franchise’s current engine and graphics, was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase by Atlus, albeit with very little of the game actually shown.
All presented in engine, this early development showcases several locations that should be familiar to fans of the 2008 game. We see a field of tall grass with a bridge in the background, a look at the shrine players often frequent, and finally, a look at one of the classrooms where any fan of the Persona series knows you can expect to spend most of your days. At the end of this trailer, we get a minor amount of gameplay as the entry protagonist Yu Nakuhari runs out and along this main street, appearing to have a free-roaming camera tracking him.
Persona 4 tells the story of Yu as he travels to live with his Uncle and Cousin in the Japanese countryside. The quiet life promised from this move is cut short, however, when he and his new friends are thrust into an investigation involving a series of murders, a mysterious TV program known as the Midnight Channel, and an alternate world they travel to by entering TV screens.
Persona 4 Revival has been announced for Xbox, as well as being a day one game with Xbox Game Pass, as well as part of the Xbox Play Anywhere, though no release date was given as of yet. Despite this, it will most likely be announced for the PlayStation 5 at a later date, and presumably the Nintendo Switch 2 as well. It is also unclear if this will be a remake of the original PlayStation 2 or the remastered, expanded PlayStation Vita version. Persona 3 Reload was released with the original version of the title, forgoing the expanded content of its PlayStation Portable version, though a DLC added content for the F.E.S. re-released PlayStation 2, entitled Episode-Aigis – The Answer, was released later that year.
