PlayStation State of Play Japan Announced

Sony has announced that they will be showcasing a State of Play Japan event this week. Set to broadcast on November 11th at 2 pm PST / 5 pm EST, PlayStation stated that the event will feature “more than 40 minutes” on updates for games created in Japan, as well as the rest of Asia, alongside a few other exciting updates.”

In a break from the traditional format, this event will feature a host, Voice Actor Yuki Kaji, who plays Adol Christin in the Ys franchise. The State of Play will only air in Japanese, with English subtitles available, which is uncommon, even for State of Play events that have focused on games from the region before.

In terms of Japan, Sony has a few games coming out that are likely to show up. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 fighting game based on the Marvel universe from Guilty Gear developer Arc System Works, has appeared during State of Plays before, as well as on the floor at EVO, which Sony owned a portion of till earlier this year. PlayStation also has the FlexStrike wireless fight stick set to release next year, making a strong case for Sony’s continued advertisement of the game in any event they can. Similarly, Sony has had an advertising deal with Capcom for their upcoming title, Pragmata, which could make an appearance as well.

The fact that PlasyStation made a point to say it would feature games from across Asia is interesting as well. Sony has made significant investments across Asia, particularly in China, through its PlayStation China Hero Project. Phantom Blade Zero is another Chinese project that Sony has invested in that has had multiple showcases but has yet to receive an official release date. Another game, Where Winds Meet, which is an open-world free-to-play title, is set to release on November 14 for PlayStation and PC, and would make sense to receive one more showing before release.

There is only one way to be sure what they showcase during the Sony State of Play Japan, and that is to watch tomorrow when it airs. Or check back here for coverage.
