Capcom has announced that a Resident Evil Showcase event will be streaming later this week, focusing on “brand new gameplay and news” for the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, which is set to release next month. The Showcase will air on Thursday, January 15 @ 2 pm Pacific / 5 pm Eastern Time, with Capcom hosting a “Post Show via their YouTube channel, going over the many announcements made.

The biggest question going into this showcase, obviously, stems from some rumors that have been raised, with the most recent Nvidia teaser trailer seeming to certain fans to confirm that the game will feature open-world style hub areas. The teaser trailer, which was showcasing the DLSS 4 path tracing technology the title will take advantage of, showcased some brief moments of dual protagonist Grace walking through a busy city, with some believing this area will serve a much bigger purpose than just an area she passes through.

There is some debate to be had on this, as Resident Evil is known to experiment with new gameplay elements, so the idea that this serves as a hub is not far-fetched, but there is the possibility that this is just a high-quality scripted area is also possible. Earlier titles in the series featured puzzles built around areas that constantly needed to be traversed and backtracked, so we could see this serve a similar function, a more modern homage to the series roots. Of course, all we can do right now is speculate, so hopefully we will soon receive more concrete answers.

Before this, the biggest question since the title’s announcement surrounded a potential return of series mainstay Leon S. Kennedy, which Capcom has confirmed this rumor, releasing a trailer showcasing that Leon will be playable as well. Despite this, gameplay trailers have focused more on Grace Ashcroft when it comes to gameplay, which features a less capable protagonist than is typical for the series, dealing with horror-focused moments, so it would be interesting to see if they choose to show longer raw gameplay for how Leon fits in.

Artwork for the event seems to focus heavily on the gun featured on Resident Evil Requiem’s cover, alongside red colored bullets. Resident Evil Requiem’s director, Koshi Nakanishi, has previously suggested this gun has some deeper importance to the narrative, so maybe we will get some information in that regard as well.
