The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed yet again, with the title now set to release on November 19, 2026. This news was announced via a post on X by Rockstar Games, the company states these extra months of development “will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
Grand Theft Auto VI was never given an official date at the time, but initial plans placed the release sometime near the fall of 2025. This was something Rockstar parent company Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick seemed confident of at the time, despite several publications suggesting that the game was heading for a delay beyond this initial window. We received official news of this first delay when the long-awaited second trailer (which gave us an actual look at the narrative and characters) announced the game would now release on May 26, 2026, also stating this delay was to allow for extra polish.
This delay should not come as too much of a surprise, given Rockstar’s history of willingness to do so. Grand Theft Auto remains the most profitable IP of all time, given that they have a comfortable cushion to hammer out the issues its next game might have, with the title project still projected to make anywhere from $3 billion to $7.6 billion within its first year of sales. This is all on an estimated $2 billion budget, which is astronomical compared to the average budgets across AAA games.
Last week, Take Two underwent the termination of dozens of employees, alleging that there was “gross misconduct,” later adding that these people took part in “leaking confidential information in a public forum.” Not only have the terminated employees denied this, but they also claimed that these terminations were retaliatory for participating in online discussions about forming a union. These former employees, as well as supporters, have taken to protesting at both the Take-Two UK office as well as at Rockstar North.
