Smite 2, a sequel to the popular MOBA title that has been running since 2014, has been officially unveiled by developer Titan Forge Games. It will serve as a revamping of the mythology-based competitive game, complete with modernized graphics and revamped gods to play as. They have also confirmed that the sequel will be built from the ground using Unreal Engine 5.
The game is set to boast a cleaner Interface for players with easier-to-parse spell effects. Several of the gods will also be getting some overhauling, such as Ymir, who will be getting new physical-based abilities. Additionally, the game will add two new sources of power to each character, Strength, and Intelligence, to further distinguish the gods from each other. At its core players can expect Smite 2 to play much like the original despite any changes.
Players can also expect a new backend as well featuring cross-play,, improved matchmaking, and a reworked ranking system. The relic and item system is additionally overhauled to encourage new players through easy accessibility.
Money used in the original will not be limited to that ecosystem, with most of them transferring over. Any gems purchased in the original title transfer over as legacy gems and can be used to purchase items in Smite 2. There will also be cross-generational skins that can be used in both games.
The sequel will not replace the original game, with it being confirmed Smite will remain active alongside Smite 2 at least for the present. It is doubtful that the original will continue to get content updates beyond the release of the sequel, though no official word has been given at this point.
A release date has yet to be announced for the Smite 2, but it can be wishlisted on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
