RGG Studios’ newest IP, Stranger Than Heaven, received a new trailer during the Xbox Partner Preview held on March 26. For those hoping a release date might be provided during the event, we did not receive one; however, it was announced that Xbox will be holding a special look at the title on May 6th. Currently, the title is anticipated to release within SEGA’s financial year ending in March 2027.
Similar to previous trailers, a focus was placed on much of the combat, also set to a jazz drum riff of the era. Using the studio’s Dragon engine, there is a cinematic element to combat, especially when the player uses a weapon. Other moments showcase characters grabbing and tossing each other during combat segments.
What we got a sense of, more than previous trailers, is the sense of exploration that will be available to players. The characters will be able to hop onto streetcars and ride around the areas, with a multitude of combat moments appearing set in open spaces, implying there will be dynamic situations you can find yourself in.
While we knew the game would feature multiple points in time, with two characters across them, this trailer showcases that there will be 5 eras to fight through. Beyond that, we did finally get confirmation that one of the locations will be Kamurocho, the red light district, based on a real-life location, Kabukicho, where both Like a Dragon and Judgement are set, implying that this series indeed shares the same universe.
Stranger Than Heaven still has a lot of mysteries left to be answered, so hopefully, May 6th will see some more exploration on just how players will get to experience this new world from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio.
