Rounding out the Nintendo Partners Direct held today, Square Enix showcased new RPG titles to feature the HD-2D aesthetic that was popularized for the company with Octopath Traveler. While one of these titles was in fact a new Octopath Traveler Game, the other was a new IP entitled The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, which looks like a combination of a few different games under Square Enix’s Belt.
Set in the Kingdom of Hurter, where the titular character Elliot sets off to investigate a mysterious set of ruins that has been found. Once there, he discovers a door that will take him on a journey through time, covering 1000 years of history as he faces off against threats both familiar to him and new. This premise feels similar to that of Square’s classic Chrono Trigger.
Despite looking very similar to Octopath Traveler, it actually looks like it will play somewhat similarly to classic Star Ocean games, which got a remake with this aesthetic, with Star Ocean: Second Story R. Elliot will fight in real time with seven different types of weapons he can use and upgrade to combat his enemies. Accompanying him will be a fairy named Faie that players can control as well to solve puzzles, with a second player being able to take control of this character for co-op play.
While no release date has been announced at this time, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales will be available at some point in 2026. A demo for the game is available today so people can try out the game, as well as give feedback via a post-game survey. At this time, the title has only been announced for the Nintendo Switch 2; however, many of these titles have been released day one for the PlayStation as well. It is harder to gauge with Xbox and PC, but Square Enix has stated plans to focus on a more multiplatform approach, though Day One is unclear.
