The Rogue Prince of Persia was released last year on PC, in early access, to some rave reviews. Developed by Evil Empire, a studio involved with the very popular rogue-like Dead Cells, in collaboration with Ubisoft, so it was easy to expect this Rogue-like twist on the Prince of Persia franchise to be a Quality experience. After some quiet, the studio announced during the PC Games Showcase that Rogue Prince of Persia has a 1.0, official release of the game, coming later this year.
Similar to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which was released last year, this game brings the prince back to his roots as a 2D platformer game, jumping and dodging obstacles and fighting enemies as you traverse through the stages. Throughout each run, you will gain access to items and powers that you can combine, making each of these fast-paced action packed runs feel unique, even when trading over the same ground. It has no connection to The Lost Crown or any other games in the Prince of Persia franchise, offering its own unique take on the character.
Initially intended to release on May 14th, 2024, into early access, the decision was made to delay the release by a month following the stealth release of the sequel to the mega breakout success, Hades 2, which released on May 6 to universal acclaim, topping the Steam charts. This is a bit of a shame, especially since the latter did take some much-needed attention away from the former. Both of these titles really do represent some of the absolute best the genre has to offer.
The Rogue Prince of Persia is set to release into its 1.0 state in August of this year. In the meantime, the studio is working with fans to rectify issues and concerns that remain in the game. There has been no announcement yet as to when Console Players can join the cycle of death and rebirth.
