The Legend of Heroes: Trails beyond The Horizon, the latest entry in the long-running JRPG series from developer Falcom, has been delayed to January of 2026. Previously announced for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, the title was aiming for a release in the fall of 2025. It is unclear why the title has been delayed at this time, with the title having already been released in Japan back in September of 2024.
Alongside this, it was announced that a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game will be released at the same time, marking the first version of the series to be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 since it was released on June 5th. It will be a Game Key card, which includes a physical card but requires internet access to download the game. While it will have a standard release, it is currently only pre-orderable as the limited edition through the Nisa America store, which is $109.99. Falcom President Toshihito Kondo stated in a press release:
“With the power of the Nintendo Switch 2, we expect players to have an even more enjoyable experience. In fact, this will mark the debut of the Trails series on the Nintendo Switch 2, and I personally have high expectations for it. Please continue to look forward to the release!”
Despite this delay, Falcom is still scheduled to release The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter on September 19th, 2025, for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC. This is a complete remake of the sixth game overall in the series, but the first title in the Trails subseries of titles that most modern fans of the franchise will be more familiar with.
In addition to this, Falcom is also working on a new entry in their Tokyo Xanadu series, though no release window has been announced for that as of yet. They also have a re-released version of their latest entry in the Ys series, entitled Ys X: Proud Nordics, in development that will have added content. It is also scheduled to release on the Nintendo Switch 2, making it the first Ys game to release on the platform.
