Microsoft capped off their first Xbox Developer Direct with the first trailer, and gameplay deep dive, for the upcoming Indian Jones game being developed by Machinegames. The game’s official name is Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, confirming rumors from last week suggesting that title for the game.
While the developer directs are often used to showcase already-announced games in greater detail, this was the first showing that Indiana Jones has received. As such, the showcase began with a trailer for the game, shown below:
The trailer showcases many aspects of the game, which will be set between the second and third movies in the franchise. In it, players take control of the titular character as he hunts down religious sites for a great circle worldwide. Indian Jones will be voiced by Troy Baker, which is not much of a shocker as he has been tapped to voice many big-name characters, even stepping into the role of DC’s Joker shortly after Mark Hamil departed the role.
Playing to Machinegames strength coming off of Wolfenstein, the game will be presented in first person with a third person perspective for cutscenes and some environmental interactions. While players can expect action-packed setpieces and shootouts, puzzle-solving will play a heavy role in exploring locations. Many puzzles will also be optional, allowing lots to do off the beaten path.
Indiana Jones’ signature whip will also be present in most aspects of the title. In combat you can disarm or attack enemies with it, in stealth it can be used to distract, and in exploration, it can be used to swing across gaps or solve puzzles using it.
Expect more of Indiana Jones and The Great Circle in the coming months, but for now, we know it will release for the Xbox Series S/X, and on PC sometime in 2024.
