Until Dawn Expected to Release On PlayStation 5 and PC, Official Announcement Coming Soon

The interactive horror game that kicked off Supermassive’s success in the genre, Until Dawn, will reportedly be getting a rerelease for PlayStation 5 and PC. Before this, the game was only available on PlayStation 4, marking the first of a reported many PlayStation exclusive games that Sony is planning to bring to PC this year. The announcement is expected to be made officially in two weeks.

This information is according to leaker billbil-kun who, in writing for Dealabs, says that the PlayStation 5 and PC version of the game will be a “Brand new version” of Until Dawn that has been in development for at least a year. Unfortunately, billbil-kun was unable to ascertain if this version was a remaster or a remake, or if they would launch simultaneously, but that the announcement would come in “the next 15 days”.

This timeframe was also given by the same leaker for the next big Death Stranding announcement. This might lead to some credibility of rumors that Sony’s first State of Play event will take place early in February.

News that the game will get a remake also closely follows the announcement that Until Dawn will also be adapted into a movie. The title, which started talents such as Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere, was itself a take on horror films, with players controlling the choices of its lead cast to either survive or succumb to the stupid decisions that often befall the teen stars. What this will look like in film form could be interesting to see. It will be written by the lead writer behind 2017’s Annabelle: Creation.

Supermassive has come a long way since releasing Until Dawn, though they have continued making similar titles. A series of horror narrative games were released under The Dark Picture Anthology to similar success, though mixed reception. Most recently though they released The Quarry, which was billed as a spiritual successor to Until Dawn.
