Free Expansion Coming To Astro Bot This week

Sony has revealed that Astro Bot, their Game of The Year nominated Playstation 5 platformer, will receive a free update tomorrow December 12th. This update will add a new level to the game entitled Winter Wonder, which adds a Christmas-themed area for players to platform their way through.

A PlayStation Blog post for the expansion has stated that the expansion will arrive at 6 pm PT, and 8 pm ET. This places the time it will drop during tomorrow’s Video Game Awards, possibly meaning it will get some showcase there, making sense since Astro Bot is nominated for the highest award of that show. The expansion will be available at no extra cost to players but will require a copy of Astro Bot to be able to play.

Nicola Doucet, studio director of Team Asobi who penned the blog post stated:

Since releasing Astro Bot earlier this year on PlayStation 5, we have been submerged by lovely comments from you and the PlayStation community, and we are delighted with the critical response to the game all over the world,

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for showing your appreciation. It truly means a lot to us. As our way of saying thank you, it is my pleasure to announce that a whole new piece of free additional content is coming to Astro Bot. Indeed, the little robotic elves of Team Asobi have been very busy preparing a whole new level called Winter Wonder.

Doulcet didn’t share much of what players can expect in the level except for a single screenshot showing Astro Bot approaching on his signature dual sense rocket to an area with a Christmas Tree prominently displayed in the center. From the look of it, it appears to be a standard platforming stage, rather than that of a speed running stage, many of which have also been added post-release. It was also stated that players would unlock new special-themed bots to their collection.

Additionally, he added “This winter update was made with every user in mind, meaning it is a celebration enjoyable for children and adults alike,” assumably in response to the speed runs that have been added in the post, often offering a very challenging run to complete.

Astro Bot sold 1.5 million copies in its first two months of sale and is an easy game to recommend if you’re looking for something to play on your PlayStation 5.
