The Witcher IV Announced During The VGAs

The long-awaited next chapter in CD Projekt Red‘s Witcher series, The Witcher IV has been showcased during the Video Game Awards. This comes nine years after its predecessor The Witcher 3 took to the same stage to take home the second annual Game of The Year award in 2015.

No gameplay for The Witcher IV was shown, with the title only recently having been stated to have entered full-scale production, but we were given a pretty good indicator of what to expect. Following the events of the previous game Ciri, who served as the deuteragonist, will now take the reigns as the lead Witcher in the story as the protagonist. This change is something CD Projekt Red has been pretty consistent about, having previously stated right after releasing The Witcher 3 that Ciri would carry the franchise forward.

In it we see her arrive to disrupt a ritual in a small town that seems to involve sacrificing a made to a monster that lives in the woods. Ciri appears to be older than last we saw her but there is no indication here about just how much time had passed between the two games. It was confirmed that Geralt, the lead of the series to now will make an appearance in this title as well, with Doug Cockle reprising his role, though any specifics about this are being kept hush-hush.

This is only one of the many projects that CD Projekt Red has in development, and not the only Witcher game coming as well. Another Witcher game, intended to kickstart a new trilogy is in full-scale development as well under the codename Project Polaris. Additionally, The Molasses Flood, developer of The Flame In The Flood, has also been working on a game set in The Witcher universe since being acquired by CD Projekt in 2021 named Project Sirius. For those looking to return to cyberpunk America, Cyberpunk 2077 has a sequel in development under Project Orion.
