Split Fiction Announced At VGAs From It Takes Two Developer Hazelight

During the Video Game Awards, the director of It Takes Two, Josef Fares, took to the stage to announce the follow-up to their previous Game of the Year award winner. Entitled Split Fiction, it looks like much of what we have come to expect of developer Hazelight, but in a much grander package than we have ever seen before.

Split Fiction once again sees the studio’s signature brand of split-screen co-op return as you and a friend (or stranger) take on the role of Protagonists Mio and Zoe, a pair of contrasting writers who take part in a futuristic program that places them within their own stories. The two accidentally become trapped together and are forced to team up and escape, as well as take down the corporation at the center of it all.

Both writers, however, prefer very different genres with one a fantasy writer and the other a sci-fi writer. This means that levels will go back and forth between those settings. In one for instance the pair find dragons they progress through the stage with, helping them to grow to take on bigger obstacles. In another, the two flee from high-tech ships that chase them across a technological skyline. Both worlds promise to offer unique experiences that Hazelight has become known for.

Since the game requires two players, similar to previous titles, the game will once again offer a friend pass allowing you and your friends to play the game even if only one of you actually owns the game. As Josef Fares puts the experience in the trailer “No lootboxes, no microtransactions, no BS.”

Arguably the best part of the trailer is that Split Fiction has a release date, and it’s sooner than you might think. Split Fiction will be available on March 6th, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.
