Hogwarts Legacy Mod Support Launches On PC This Week

Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software have announced plans to launch mod support for the PC version of Hogwarts Legacy, adding a sea of possibilities as to what the Open-world wizarding game might offer in the future.

The team at Avalanche announced this addition to the game with a 3-minute video presentation posted to YouTube, revealing that players will be able to start using the feature on January 30th through a free update. As of now, this feature will only be available on PC, as one might expect, with no mention of if or when such a feature might come to consoles.

Avalanche Community Manager Chandler Wood stated:

We’ve made it easy for everyone. It’s all simplified with official tools provided by us. For mod creators, you’ll be able to get the official Hogwarts Legacy creator kit, free on the Epic Games Store. The creator kit provides powerful tools right at your fingertips, allowing you to flex your inner developer like the ones here at Avalanche and conjure the magic with custom mods that other players can enjoy, too.

Of course, with any mod support players can expect it to eventually devolve into a bedlam of Sherk characters and Tomas the Tank Engine dragons (lord knows there are already a lot that exist), but for now, Avalanche has been working with members of the community to make sure there are mods available on day one for players. Some of these mods will be things like dragons and vacuum cleaners to replace the standard broom, an endless dungeon to put your schooling to the test, and a magical creature fetch quest.

Hogwarts Legacy was launched for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC in February of 2023, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions releasing later in May. A Nintendo Switch version was released later in November. Mod support should be a great reason to return to the title for its 2 year anniversary.

For those excited about what might come next for Hogwarts Legacy, Avalanche has announced that a sequel is in development and one of their top priorities moving forward. Rumors suggest that it might share some elements with the upcoming Harry Potter series set to launch on HBO Max in the future and cover the events of J.K. Rowling’s 7 novel series. Given that Hogwarts Legacy is set 100 years before the events of the books, whether the sequel will be set in modern times, serve to fill in historical plot points, or indeed relate to the show at all, remains to be seen.
