Well anticipated survival MMO Dune: Awakening has been delayed, developer Funcom has announced. Initially planned for release on May 20th, a little over a month from now, the studio has announced that it will now release on June 10th, being delayed by 3 weeks. The developers have stated that this will give the team more time to polish the upcoming title.
As posted on the game’s official social media account via X:
We will be moving the release date of Dune: Awakening to June 10, with head start launching on June 5. This is not a decision we take lightly, we know everyone is very excited to get playing, but these three extra weeks will give us the time needed to make improvements that will lead to a better gameplay experience from day one.
While not in direct competition, it should be noted that Dune: Awakening will now launch close to the planned release date for the Nintendo Switch 2, with the early access date for Dune falling on the same day the long-awaited console does. Much debate has been placed around the Switch 2’s price tag, which is $449.99 in the US, but it is still expected to perform well. Should people spend the money on the platform, it remains to be seen what impact this will have on releases around it. This being said, Summer Game Fest 2025 will take place on June 6th, one day after early access releases. Having advertised during the event prior, this could bring in positive sales being so close to official release. It could also distract players from the release of the game, who can say.
Funcom has attributed the delay in part to player feedback during the game’s ongoing closed beta. Commenting on this, the studio stated:
Thanks to this process, we’ve concluded that with a bit more time to cook, we can act on a lot more of the feedback we know is important to our beta testers.
Additionally, the studio stated that a much bigger beta weekend will occur sometime in May. This will allow more players to try the MMO, which in turn allows more feedback to be collected. If some of this polish is implemented by then, we could get some positive news moving closer to the launch.
Dune: Awakening will release for PC on June 10th, with the Head Start launching on June 5th for those who get early access. It will be released on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series at a later date.
