DigixArt, the developer behind the narrative hitchhiking Roguelike Road 96, has showcased a gameplay trailer of their upcoming game Tides of Tomorrow as part of Sony’s State of Play showcase on June 4th.
Tides of Tomorrow is set in a world that is covered in water and is meant to take on themes including the climate crisis, similar to how previous games from the developer aim to tackle similar issues facing the world. Players will be able to explore this world on land or in a boat as they embody the role of a Tide walker. While not fully open-world, and still maintaining a roguelike ‘run’ take on levels, how the player can tackle these tasks seems to be varied, with areas having some scope to them, with a varied amount of gameplay.
The game’s biggest twist of narrative storytelling is its incorporation of multiplayer elements into this. While you, as a tide walker, do everything solo, each run begins by choosing another player whose path you want to follow. Narrative choices that the player made will impact you with certain NPCs, even referencing things that the other player said or did during their run. These choices will also have consequences and ramifications that you will confront firsthand. These choices will change how the story unfolds for the player across the narrative.
Tides of Tomorrow also received a release date at the end of the trailer. Players will be able to chart a course for the open waters on February 24th, 2026. It will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. Developer DigixArt discussed the game in detail on a PlayStation Blog post that you can read here.
