Chibi-Robo!, the Nintendo GameCube title from 2005, has been announced to be joining the Nintendo Switch Online catalog available to players on the Nintendo Switch 2. The title was already suggested to be coming at some point due to a summary that was available on the Nintendo eShop, suggesting the company to be porting it to their new system. We now know that it will arrive next week. This will make it the second title added to the GameCube library, which remains small at only 4 titles so far, since Super Mario Strikers was added.
Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription-based service that Nintendo launched in 2018 to serve a similar function to the Online Services of PlayStation and Xbox at the time. As part of this, Nintendo launched a series of apps that allow players to enjoy curated retro experiences across a number of platforms, such as the NES and the SNES. They also launched a higher tier of the Nintendo Switch Online series that includes additional DLC for games such as the Mario Kart 8 Booster Bundle, as well as Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Happy Home Designer.
The Camecube library, which was launched on June 5th along with the Nintendo Switch 2, had three games available to players at launch. These titles included The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, and Soul Calibur 2, with Super Mario Strikers joining shortly after. Among the games expected to be released on the service, there are Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi’s Mansion, and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. The Nintendo Switch 2 also has a GameCube-style controller for the platform to take full advantage of these titles, though the controller is only confirmed to work with the GameCube library, with some other titles functioning with it and others not at all.
Chibi-Robo! is a platforming title that was developed by Skip Ltd in collaboration with Nintendo. In it, you play as the titular Chibi-Robo, a small robot that features a power plug for a tail. The player helps guide the robot through several levels, all set in an ordinary household. The player gains points through the game by completing housework or solving problems for the family that lives in the household. The most recent game in the series, Chibi-Robo Zip Lash, was released in 2015. It will be available in August 21, 2025.
