After teasing that another Tales title would be getting the remaster treatment following Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Graces f, Namco Bandai has announced that the next game in the series to return for modern platforms will be Tales of Xillia. This continues an effort by the company to bring back older games in the series, which started in 2019 and continued through the release of Graces f last year. At the time, Namco Bandai stated that they planned to double down on these efforts due to the success of the two releases.
Tales of Xillia was originally released in 2011 in Japan and 2013 in the West and featured a two-protagonist system similar to that of Star Ocean: Second Story, which was uncommon for a Tales game. With it, the play could choose to start the narrative as either Jude Mathis or Milla Maxwell, each having a unique introduction before their journeys, combined with minor moments. Your choice of character would then depart from the core party and give the player character specific moments.
Unfortunately, similar to the most recent Tales of Symphonia remaster, which dropped its previously included sequel and was only sold as the first entry, these remasters will not include the 2012/2014 sequel Tales of Xillia 2, which is honestly my favorite game in the series due to its extremely dark tone. There has been no news on whether the sequel will get its own remaster, being one of the more popular sequels to release for the series, but given past plans on remastering the Tales games, it looks like plans are focused on the core titles at this time.
Tales of Xillia Remastered will mark the first time the series releases outside of the PlayStation ecosystem, giving Xbox and Nintendo fans the chance to finally enjoy another title in the long-running JRPG franchise. Tales of Xillia Remastered will release on October 31st, 2025, and will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
