Catto’s Post Office is a game after my own heart. And yours. And everyone who loves cats. Our relationship with these fur babies is usually one of endless affection thanks to their quirky nature. Even more so if they are orange cats, which science still can’t determine why they are so silly. But I digress. This game, in which you are a cat delivering mail, is such a heartwarming experience that I couldn’t help but love it. And there are several reasons why other than the brilliant premise itself.
As the title suggests, you play as the titular Catto on a special day working as a mailman, because it is his birthday! Everything lined up for him to have an enjoyable time working, you get up with a pep in your step first thing in the morning. Before leaving, there is a cat tree you can play with, because of course you can. Catto is so eager to work that he bends his little knees when he’s idle, so it’s best to get on with the bright day ahead.

To Catto’s surprise, the assistant in charge does not remember what is so special about this day, so he just moves on to request him to deliver packages like usual. There is a cute underlying narrative that unfolds as you spend your shift delivering packages in this quaint little town. One that, while it can be anticipated, does its best to melt even the coldest of hearts. Discovering what the streets have in store is quite pleasant as well.
The artstyle is so wholesome with its bright pastel colors that the biggest reason I can recommend Catto’s Post Office is because of its feel-good vibes. The music as you walk around is so joyfully curious. And gameplay-wise, there are plenty of achievements for the silliest of things, like: getting inside a box, avoiding a puddle of water, or not, and kicking cans into a trash can, among other cheerful activities. Catto’s Post Office manages to keep a smile on your face throughout its whole playthrough.

THERE IS A MEOW BUTTON. Sorry, there was an issue with my keyboard. There is a meow button that is honestly one of the best ideas I have seen in a videogame since forever. Cat’s behaviors are so truthfully represented in the game, from the hilarious cat commenting they were tired because they stayed up all night meowing, to licking their paws each day. Pet owners will find themselves giggling at every sly reference to how cats act. For the rest of us, we will certainly be influenced by this tribute to our furry companions.
Shorter games that triumph in their simplicity and charm are a much-needed breath of fresh air. A small ode to the happiness cats provide to our lives, this is a low-stakes, cozy adventure that is wholesome in its entirety. Completing the many amusing achievements alongside getting to know the residents of this cat-filled villa is a beautiful way to spend an afternoon. Just like a perfect day where everything goes right since you wake up, Catto’s Post Office is sure to lift your spirits.
