Announced at Nintendo Direct on September 12th, 2025, Nintendo announced The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. This announcement comes from one of many others for Mario’s 40th anniversary. With previous confirmation in March 2024 of a new Mario movie, Nintendo decided to go all in and drop a ton of details on the film for this four-decade milestone.

Releasing in theaters on April 3rd, 2026, a majority of its star-studded lineup is set to return. Those coming back to the franchise are:
- Chris Pratt (Mario)
- Charlie May (Luigi)
- Jack Black (Bowser)
- Keegan-Michael Key (Toad)
- Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek)
- Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach)
Although most are coming back, a big name was seemingly left off that list – Seth Rogen. Because of his role as Donkey Kong in the previous film, fans are speculating that he may be working on a new Donkey Kong Spin-Off movie. Though still technically unconfirmed, Nintendo did file a copyright registration for an Untitled Donkey Kong Project; Motion Picture. With such a specific copyright, it is very likely the spin-off will eventually arrive. That said, this also doesn’t solidify his absence in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Along with the movie, multiple game announcements were made; Super Mario Bros. Wonder will receive a new DLC titled Meetup in Bellabel Park, Mario Tennis Fever is coming out, and Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 are arriving on Nintendo Switch! With the Super Mario Galaxy games recently regaining popularity, focusing a large portion of his anniversary on the Galaxy series and refining the games (refinements discussed here) was a brilliant choice!
