Towa And the Guardians of the Sacred Tree – Where And How To Fish, and Earning the It’s A Big One Trophy/Achievement

While the village hub area in Towa And The Guardians of the Sacred Tree is small, there are a few things that players can take part in while controlling Towa, before setting out on their journey through the roguelike core of the experience. One of the things you can do here has become a staple in gaming, and that’s a fishing minigame. Fishing doesn’t seem like it will help the player on their quest, which wouldn’t matter as a good fishing game is a great diversifier, but by taking part, you will actually help yourself in the long run as well.

On the right side of the village, take a lengthy staircase to the left of your residence, and you will end up near a lake with a stone and fish shadows swimming about. It should stand out because of the fishing gear there and the wooden sign. Standing in front of this is Kei, head of the local fishers, whom you will need to talk to to begin fishing. Once you have spoken to him, you will get the rod to begin your fishing journey, which simply involves walking up to the edge of the rock and casting your line into the water. Once the bobber goes underwater, Towa will display an exclamation point over her head. Hit the action button, and a gauge appears in which you need to rapidly keep pressing the action button until it is full, at which point you catch the fish. While this is the only fishing spot unlocked at the beginning, there are a few more that will become unlocked as you progress with the main story.

Towa does not actually ‘get’ fish from this, though you will be notified of what fish you caught, the size of it, and the grade, which is represented in stars. This is also tracked in your fishing guide. All of these factors contribute to the fishing points that you get for every catch you make. Kei, who remains next to this spot, has a shop next to this position. You can access the shop by talking to him, where total fishing points are showcased for you to spend on items. He sells a few things worth noting, such as Skills, both cracked and polished (a grading system for skills in-game), but more importantly, he has a stock of different types of steel. Steel is used to craft swords, with this shop giving very early access to better types of steel than the base type you might find in the dungeon, so you should use this shop to buy these and get an edge in the dungeons.

In addition, the fishing mini-game has a trophy associated with participating in it, called It’s A Big One! that you can earn, requiring you to catch 10 fish, rather than anything dealing with the actual size. There are no limitations on fishing, allowing you to just run up and start fishing, so it is easy to get started here. The one note is that while you will continue to catch fish, the time gets longer with each cast in a single sitting. Your first bite will be almost instant, with these getting progressively longer into the minutes of waiting. If this happens, you can go do a run in the dungeon, which will reset this time delay when you return. For me, it took two trips to the fishing hole to complete this, but you might do three. Regardless, with the value of the fishing store, it is unlikely you will fail to earn this trophy at some point.
