Following the box office success of ‘The Super Mario Movie’, ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ was quickly announced. As of today, November 12th, 2025, we now have the trailer! Although we haven’t been given many plot details, we will cover everything that has been provided. We already know from the title that much of the inspiration will come from the Mario Galaxy titles, so that will be a significant help in figuring out what’s going on. If you would like a rundown on other information regarding the movie, like cast and release date, then check out our article ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ Hits Theaters Next April.
The Mushroom Kingdom’s Expository Prologue
The trailer begins with a vicious painting scene of Bowser, the painting he’s working being that of a skeletonized Mario. Just as he finishes, a large Luigi interrupts and asks what Bowser had called them for, their difference in size reminding us of the blue mushroom Bowser ate at the end of the first movie. Bowser then rushes out another painting, the contents of which are Princess Peach swooning over a sculpted version of Bowser. While Luigi admires the colors, Mario calls it trash. Mario’s response then upsets Bowser, causing him to yell at Mario before taking a step back and regaining his composure. As we can see from the photos and crashout, Bowser still has feelings for Peach and abhors Mario.
First Signs of the Next Adventure

The next shot shows the Mushroom Kingdom bombarded with what looks like shooting stars. Although a definite explanation isn’t provided, we can assume these shooting stars are either star bits, stars, star launchers, Lumas, or any combination of the four. Seeing Toad and Peach jump into a star launcher before getting thrown into space in the very next scene, it’s safe to assume the star launcher was definitely among the falling objects.
An extremely short clip of Mario and Luigi riding dirt bikes across dunes. Multiple inverted pyramids sit in the distance, a couple floating buoyant in the sky. With inverted pyramids only showing Maybe this means we will also get to see Tostarena Town!

Next, we get a shot of Princess Peach fighting off Ninjis. Neon lights flood the room she’s in, and a giant roulette board sprawls across the floor. Fellow Mario Party enthusiasts may notice that this set bears a strong resemblance to the roulette games that appear throughout the Mario Party series. It could aslo be one of the many casinos from other Mario titles, like Luigi’s Casino from Super Mario 64 or King Boo’s Casino in Super Mario Sunshine. The presence of these Ninjis could also imply that Wart may make an appearance. This is unlikely, though, since they have made an abundance of appearances without Wart in previous games.
The Inciting Incident and Ethereal Defense
The next plot detail then reveals itself; Bowser Jr. menacingly invades the castle, demanding the return of his father, Bowser. Wielding his classic magic paintbrush, he creates a morningstar out of his paint and attempts to strike Mario with it. Whether he successfully gets Bowser or not remains a mystery, though it’s likely this is where the movie’s conflict originates.

The last bit we get is of Rosalina. On what may or may not be her Comet Observatory. She steps out to find Bowser Jr.’s robot, Megaleg, saying, “Princess Rosalina, you’re coming with me”. She then calmly summons her star wand. As the Megaleg reaches out toward Rosalina, she counters with her wand and pushes the machine back. She then speeds to the underside of it and grabs each leg with her wand before throwing them out, destroying each one. Finally, it ends on a close-up shot of Rosalina with the Megaleg suddenly dropping behind her.

Afterword
Introducing Bowser Jr, Rosalina, and Ninjis, ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ will be a direct continuation of the first movie. Although quite a bit of information is provided, it doesn’t give us enough to make any major certainties about the plot. Although Rosalina seemingly defeats Megaleg, we don’t know the full outcome of this event. Similarly, we can see Bowser Jr. demanding to give back Bowser, yet we never actually see Bowser Jr. taking Bowser. This will undoubtedly lead to fun debates on what will happen until we either receive more information or the movie’s release in April. We will also be covering any new information as it unfolds, so stay tuned!
