Divinity: Original Sin II Getting Upgrade For PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, And Nintendo Switch 2

Developer Larian took to the stage at the Video Game Awards last week to announce that the next project they are working on after their hugely popular Baldur’s Gate III, is a return in some kind to their previous franchise. Announced simply as Divinity, the game is a follow-up to the Divinity Series, which was last released in 2017 with Divinity: Original Sin II. Following closely after the announcement of this new entry, the studio has announced a free update for Original Sin II, meant to bring the game in line with modern consoles.

This announcement was made in a new trailer, showcasing that the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions of the game will be updated for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2. These versions of Divinity: Original Sin II will not add a huge amount, focusing the update on both framerate and resolution. The upshot of this, though, is that the update will be completely free if you already own the game.

If you do not already own Divinity: Original Sin II, or weren’t one of the many players that grabbed it in the wake of Baldur’s Gate III‘s universal acclaim, this is also a good time to buy it. Currently on Nintendo Switch, for instance, it is 50% off, down to $25, which lets you upgrade to the Switch 2 version at no additional cost. If you are a PC player, as you might expect, there is no update that you need to get the same quality of the game, as these options are already accessible in the game.

While the new entry in the series has not been titled, or at least not yet, as Original Sin III, Larian has stated that players of the first and second Original Sin might “be able to enjoy greater understanding and continuity,” making this a great time to play the game, especially if you haven’t.
